Ever since Carissa was a baby David and I made it a tradition to visit Krispy Crème Donuts if we were either in the La Mirada or Puente Hills area. Then when the one in La Mirada closed down it went down to only an every once in a while occasion, but every time  was a special time spent together. It was a way for us to get out have a date and treat our little girl all at the same time. Once we had Nathan although we did go there a few times reality set in that we weren’t  getting any younger and our metabolism wasn’t speeding up in fact along with all the stress factors of life our metabolism had seemed to slow down….I guess donuts every week or so didn’t help. Looking back I’ve noticed how much we used treats and dinning out as a way to wind down and spend quality time together just the four of us or even as a family which is why those times became so valued. Not that it’s a bad thing to want to go out with one another to eat but when it became 3 times a week if not more our energy and ability to keep up with our children had dwindled. So I took up cooking and it really has become a fun hobby for me as well as sharing my new concoctions with the people I love and stopped frequently attending Krispy crème. After many months of practicing  self control we felt it was time to treat ourselves. Indulging wasn’t the purpose but we sure did seem to enjoy the experience way more then when we went all the time. The flavors seemed more rich and one donut was fully satisfying instead of the 3 we would devour. One thing was completely true about that whole day and the times when we are together we truly love being around one another, laughing continuously, soaking up the new experiences, and receiving the gift God has given us in one another. Although now it doesn’t have to include food or even going anywhere we can find that special moment anywhere as long as we are together.
